We redesigned the first and second floor of this outdated home in Newton, MA to create a fluid floor plan, grand kitchen/living space, elevator, master suite, and finished basement for the homeowners as they look forward to growing in place.
Main Floor
The main floor was transformed by removing two walls and creating an open space with clear site lines to the backyard while also allowing ample light to pour throughout the kitchen and dining area. The small and isolated galley kitchen and dining area were expanded and reconfigured to provide improved functionality, ample storage, seating and prep space.
The kitchen delivers a sleek, matt lacquered finish with a blend of platinum Composit cabinets, leathered steel grey stone counters, and a backsplash in Porcelanosa (Pearls White) that adds an air of fun to the space. The grand island provides additional seating with a countertop finished in Black Walnut. Continuing into the dining room, the space now feels warm and inviting with Composit built-ins in bleached oak veneer creating a beautiful backdrop for displaying family collectibles.
Two main solutions we provided were leveling the 2-step raised living room by lowering the 10 ft basement ceiling and locating an elevator strategically to offer access to the kitchen, master bedroom, and exercise room. Finishing this main floor is a living room featuring a beautifully tiled gas fireplace and a relaxing powder room with a decorative wall by Porcelanosa in Sued Taupe coupled with a floating vanity and mosaic floor in Chantilly Gray Honed.
Second Floor
The master suite was remodeled to include a seating area, 4 closets, built-ins in the bedroom and the dressing area, a paneled wall backdrop, an elevator entry, and a master bathroom. The new open and airy master bathroom showcases a threshold-free shower with handicap features, double sinks with plenty of storage, and a statement mosaic backsplash. Finishing the upstairs space, the guest bathroom was remodeled to include modern and natural design elements that now create a warm, neutral palette with beautiful texture.
Basement
The basement was remodeled to include a workout room, playroom for their grandkids, a finished bathroom, and elevator access.

I liked the fact that design and construction were under one roof and I was impressed with the depth of the Feinmann team and the fact that their employees had been with the company for a long time. Feinmann employees really cared about the quality of work and we very much appreciated the time and attention they gave us. The team we had was great!

Learn About Design-Build- Bebe NixonPlease tell Chris Gonzalez that both Nick and I are very grateful for his thoughtful guidance during our two renovations with your company. He was a very very good teacher, patient and kind and obviously skilled. Please let him know how much we continue to appreciate what he taught us.
- Royal Revival ProjectWe had an excellent experience with everyone at Feinmann. Our project manager was responsive and kept communication clear throughout. The head carpenter was a pleasure to work with, and our designer/architect brought great talent and vision to the project. We highly recommend hiring them without hesitation.
- Cambridge, MAWe loved having entire Feinmann team in our home and appreciated them treating it like it was their own. The work they did is all over-the-top gorgeous. They coached us to select products and finishes that will last a lifetime (and through our toddler), and the craftsmanship with which it was all executed certainly will hold up to time. I admire daily the integration of existing and new, and regret only that in time I’ll likely forget which is which. Feinmann is masterful at what they do. I really can’t say enough nice things about them, and their work.
