This homeowner in Concord, Massachusetts, came to us looking for a creative solution. They previously worked with a general contractor that did some design but did not feel it was transformative. As a result, Feinmann stepped in to capture the homeowners’ vision.
The client had two goals. First, reconfigure their kitchen, dining room, and mudroom to improve the flow and functionality. And second, maximize the views of their backyard and the nearby river.
To accomplish these goals, we did the following. We began by removing the wall between their present kitchen and dining room to create an expansive space. Furthermore, we added a galley-style kitchen and a mudroom to this area. The kitchen features a grand island that boasts seating for six and ample storage. The mudroom includes custom built-ins and beautiful mosaic flooring to help distinguish its boundary.
In addition, we used an undefined room in the front of their house to create their dining area. And to better connect this space to the kitchen, we removed their fireplace and added a large barn-style door for the entrance.
To sum up, the final renovation created a sense of connectivity and playfulness. For instance, the entire wall of windows in the kitchen brings you closer to the outdoors. And the exciting use of colors and patterns adds a feeling of fun and adventure.
Cabinets: We used Greenfield Augusta for the kithcen cabinets. We painted the perimeter cabinets in Grey Matters, wall built-ins in Silver Lining, and island in Champion Cobalt.
Countertops: We used Calacatta Vincenza Q- Quartz for the perimeter and Black Soapstone for the island.
Tiles: The kitchen backsplash is 2×10 Porcelain LAVA Brick Tranquility titles. The mudroom floor is patchwork tiles in black and white.
