This Queen Anne Victorian was grand in appearance, but the interiors had been awkwardly remodeled. The homeowners challenged Feinmann to create a functional, modern living space while preserving the charm of the home. The 700 square foot addition actually added the functional equivalent of 1,000 square feet of usable space, creating a much better spatial flow.
The extended porch element is the most striking feature of the exterior, enforcing the old-world charm of the house. The concept was to wrap the porch around the house, pushing out the existing walls to create an enclosed living area within the extended porch element and to renovate the interior to increase the amount of usable space and add flow to the cramped rooms.
Wrapping and enclosing the “new” porch allowed us to open up the dining room and reconfigure the long, narrow living room to create a larger space that was easier to furnish. A spacious and bright kitchen with a dramatic octagonal eating area is now the heart of the home. Historically accurate details throughout, including a dramatic gold-veined fireplace surround and fireside inglenook seating, add architectural interest and underscore the home’s original design. A basement family room addition, complete with plenty of windows, pushes out beyond the “porch” roofline to create a deck and stairs leading down to the patio below. This gives depth to the design and connects the home more gracefully to the sloping site.

We love our new master bedroom suite. The Feinmann designer helped us work through various possibilities and led us down the path of expanding into a rarely-used bedroom that really made the space work. The combination of materials turned out gloriously, and the work was all completed with great professionalism.

Learn About Design-Build- Bebe NixonPlease tell Chris Gonzalez that both Nick and I are very grateful for his thoughtful guidance during our two renovations with your company. He was a very very good teacher, patient and kind and obviously skilled. Please let him know how much we continue to appreciate what he taught us.
- Royal Revival ProjectWe had an excellent experience with everyone at Feinmann. Our project manager was responsive and kept communication clear throughout. The head carpenter was a pleasure to work with, and our designer/architect brought great talent and vision to the project. We highly recommend hiring them without hesitation.
- Cambridge, MAWe loved having entire Feinmann team in our home and appreciated them treating it like it was their own. The work they did is all over-the-top gorgeous. They coached us to select products and finishes that will last a lifetime (and through our toddler), and the craftsmanship with which it was all executed certainly will hold up to time. I admire daily the integration of existing and new, and regret only that in time I’ll likely forget which is which. Feinmann is masterful at what they do. I really can’t say enough nice things about them, and their work.
