Perfect Union

In Lexington, Massachusetts, this homeowner wanted to expand and open up their living areas. As a result, Feinmann built a two-story addition that improved their living room, dining room, kitchen, and basement. These changes also enhanced the flow and created the perfect union between their spaces.

Two-story Addition

We built a two-story addition for this home in Lexington, Massachusetts. This extension of the sightlines created larger living areas on both floors.

Open Floor Plan

We created an open floor plan between the family room and dining room. To accomplish this, we added a steel beam along the original sightline. This element also helped connect the design elements of the spaces.

New Stairway

The two-story addition gave us extra space to improve the home’s accessibility. For instance, we added a new staircase that seamlessly connected the upstairs, outside patio, and basement.

Repurposed Architecture

We repurposed the original architecture by keeping the rustic wood ceilings beams and integrating them into the home remodeling project.

Spaces

Family Room

This beautiful family room gets expanded with a two-story addition. Furthermore, we added floor-to-ceiling windows to increase the natural light. We also added a tiled gas fireplace and open glass shelving for function and design.

Kitchen

Feinmanne made two changes to the kitchen. We first added a large counter for extra cooking space. And then added a second steel beam to open the sightline and increase cohesiveness between the old and new design elements.

Dining Room

Feinmann repurposed the old family room as the dining room. In addition, we kept the original architecture since it included unique design elements like rustic wood beam ceilings.

Basement

This upgraded basement features a larger living area, improved lighting, and quick access to the upstairs and the backyard. As a result, the basement significantly improves both in size and function.

Features

Open Glass Shelving

Open glass shelving is an elegant and valuable feature in any space. We added open glass shelving to frame the TV and gas fireplace. This shelving presents a collection of decorative objects that enhance the style of the area.

Gas Fireplaces

Gas fireplaces are an incredible way to add comfort and warmth to a space. We added a gas fireplace in this family room and surrounded it by beautiful glass tile.
