We transformed this charming bungalow in Lexington, MA, to better meet the needs of a growing family. Our clients, a Harvard alumnus, and their family wanted to create more functional spaces, especially for their three teenagers. The existing layout lacked a family room, and the flow was not ideal. We tackled these challenges with a whole-house remodel and a two-story garage addition.
We started by converting the old garage into a sophisticated entertainment space. Drawing inspiration from a Chicago airport lounge, we designed a custom walnut bar with matching cabinetry and a marble insert behind the glassware shelving. The space opens to a new deck and outdoor kitchen, perfect for hosting gatherings. The new garage, built in front of the old one, includes a second floor for a luxurious primary suite. This suite features a cozy alcove, a seating area with a fireplace, and an expanded primary bathroom with marble tiles. Beneath the garage, we created a custom brewery for the homeowner.
Inside the home, we made significant changes to enhance functionality. We opened up the living room, exposing the staircase and adding entrances to the new bar and family room. The fireplace received a facelift with new stonework and a custom mantel. We also added a mudroom with custom millwork and a guest suite with a bedroom and bath. In the kitchen, we reorganized the cabinetry and refreshed the flooring, creating a more functional layout that better suited the family’s needs.
On the second floor, we upgraded the bathroom for the daughters and transformed the former family room into their son’s new bedroom. The basement was also reimagined, with the addition of a spacious family room and bathroom, completing the transformation.
The entertainment room’s custom walnut bar adds warmth and contrast to the lighter walls, creating a stylish focal point.
The feature wall’s deep green geometric paneling enhances the room’s visual depth and texture.
Ceiling beams run horizontally, adding structural charm and amplifying the openness of the entertainment space.
Expansive windows flood the entertainment room with natural light, brightening the wood flooring and modern design.
The two-car garage, with custom wood-style doors, complements the Craftsman-inspired home’s rustic charm.
The primary bathroom’s frameless glass shower features a rain showerhead and built-in niches for convenience.
The custom-built bookshelves flanking the fireplace add both storage and visual interest to the primary bedroom.
A sleek marble surround highlights the living room’s centrally located fireplace, creating a modern focal point.
The kitchen’s deep blue island contrasts beautifully with crisp white quartz countertops and soft white cabinetry.

- Royal Revival ProjectWe had an excellent experience with everyone at Feinmann. Our project manager was responsive and kept communication clear throughout. The head carpenter was a pleasure to work with, and our designer/architect brought great talent and vision to the project. We highly recommend hiring them without hesitation.
- Cambridge, MAWe loved having entire Feinmann team in our home and appreciated them treating it like it was their own. The work they did is all over-the-top gorgeous. They coached us to select products and finishes that will last a lifetime (and through our toddler), and the craftsmanship with which it was all executed certainly will hold up to time. I admire daily the integration of existing and new, and regret only that in time I’ll likely forget which is which. Feinmann is masterful at what they do. I really can’t say enough nice things about them, and their work.
