Newton, MA Residential Remodeling Storyline
As is often the case with Feinmann’s clients, this Newton family commissioned us to assist them multiple times over the years on various projects. We collaborated with them on the renovation of their kitchen, attic and master bathroom.
We were first asked to create a kitchen befitting this turn-of-the-century home, one which would allow the family to cook and entertain more stylishly. The existing home, like so many of this era, was a warren of small, dark, cramped rooms. The design scheme includes an addition which transforms the existing kitchen and nearby servant’s quarters into a light-filled and highly usable space.
The new kitchen, which is approximately 450 square feet, looks and feels like one large area despite the fact that it contains two distinct zones: one for cooking, clean-up and casual meals; one for dining and entertaining. A built in display wall visually divides – but doesn’t block off – the long, narrow kitchen from the breakfast room. In the breakfast room itself, a cozy window seat bathed in natural light allows it to double as a conversation and sitting area.
Most recently, Feinmann was asked to design a new master bathroom. The design solution involved the use of superb finish carpentry and custom cabinetry to define a separate sink room, corridor to the master closet and a separate toilet room with a walk-in shower. A consistent use of detailing in the cabinetry and millwork and a palette of warm tones unify the spaces while maintaining privacy.

“I was mentioning to a friend who is also having a kitchen redone that I was away and came back to a beautiful kitchen. He was amazed that I could feel comfortable about going away on vacation while work was going on. Guess they don’t have the quality of Feinmann!”
